For the second straight game against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Dbacks never say die offense was unable to dig this team out of another massive hole dug by Dbacks starting pitching. An all too familiar loss for this team in 2025.

In an eerily similar turn of events, for the second straight game the Dbacks starter got destroyed in the 3rd inning. Today however it was Brandon Pfaadts turn as he gave up one run in the first inning, had a clean second, but then gave up 5 in the third. Pfaadts final line much like ERod’s from yesterday was 2.2 IP and 6 earned runs. In what has become the trend for the series, the Brewers offense makes an adjustment after the facing a guy the first time through and absolutely destroys them the second time they see him for their second at bat.

The Dbacks offense did its very best to make this a game again highlighted by a 3 run home run in the 4th from Gabi Moreno who continues to swing a hot bat after coming back from the IL. Much like the feel from last night’s game it was like all of a sudden, ok are we back in this game?

That sentiment grew stronger in the 7th inning as the Dbacks offense had another 3 run inning highlighted by a Corbin Carroll double bringing the score to 8-6. Just enough to create hope in the hearts of Dbacks fans once again in the way only the 2025 Dbacks can do. And who else but our very own captain and MVP Geraldo Perdomo coming up with the clutch double to tie the game in the 8th inning! Could it be, something good is about to happen to the 2025 Dbacks fan and the new found hope is going to be rewarded?

In the cruelest twist of fate possible in this situation, the Brewers bring in former beloved bullpen savior Shelby Miller to shut this team down. A mere month after the Dbacks literally gave him away for no player in return simply to save some money on Jordan Montgomery’s contract. Miller did what a good reliever does and shut this Dbacks offense down and allowed fans to dream once again what this team would look like if it wasn’t ravaged by injury and hadn’t literally given their only real closer candidate away at the trade deadline. And in true 2025 Dbacks form they spoiled the massive comeback and positive vibes by having a bullpen meltdown in the bottom of the 9th inning where Juan Morillo couldn’t get an out and walked the bases loaded and the Dbacks go down on a whimper with a walk off sac fly.

Also tell me if you have heard this before? The Dbacks defense also proved to cost this team the game as well with a play in left field in the 3rd inning that Jake McCarthy really probably should have caught. With 2 outs in the inning and runners on 2nd and 3rd , McCarthy broke in hard on a ball and dove and the ball glanced off of his webbing allowing 2 runs to score. You really do expect more with a defense first player like McCarthy in LF and such a crucial play in the game resulting in 2 runs.

This season really has been one of the hardest seasons for so many Dbacks fans for games exactly like this one. Games where the pitching is completely non-competitive, the offense makes a triumphant comeback and gets the fans hopes and hearts back just enough for the bullpen to piss it away. And like I mentioned, it almost felt like insult to injury that it was Shelby Miller shutting us down at the end as our luck would have it. Some years you just have to chalk it up as nothing more as this isn’t our year, and games like this one are simply reminders of that.
