Slade was considerably better today, recording a quality start. He went 6 innings giving up only 3 runs, which is markedly better than the performances he’s put up recently. Good sign for him to be able to push through adversity!
The Rays took an early lead in the 2nd via an RBI single from Everson Pereira.
The Guardians answered right back with an RBI bunt single from Will Wilson. Wilson, by the way, had a 3-hit game in maybe the funniest way possible. Bunt single, bloop, bloop. Guardsball.
The Rays took the lead right back in the 3rd off a Brandon Lowe (Guardians legend) 2-run homer.
In the 5th, Kwan brought the deficit within one with an RBI single, breaking a 50 at-bat long RBI-less streak.
In the ninth, off Rays closer Pete Fairbanks, Nolan Jones hit a nuke to right-center to tie the game.
Cade Smith pitched a scoreless inning in the 10th (yay), and the Guardians walked off none other than Guardians legend Griffin Jax. Kyle Manzardo, by the way, had the hit. He had another fairly consequential hit off Griffin Jax last year, when Jax was still with the Twins.
A nice comeback win, something it seems like the Guardians have been sorely lacking this year.
The Mariners are in town this weekend! Go Guards.
