The Chicago White Sox made another bullpen adjustment on Wednesday afternoon ahead of their series opener with the New York Yankees, recalling left-handed reliever Cam Booser from Triple-A Charlotte while optioning Tyler Gilbert to the Knights in a corresponding move.
Booser Returns
The 32-year-old Booser returns to the major league roster, having been shuttled between Chicago and Charlotte multiple times as the White Sox continue to search for reliable bullpen arms. This latest recall comes just two weeks after Booser was optioned to Triple-A on August 13.
Booser has struggled in his limited major league opportunities this season, posting a 4.85 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 32 appearances with Chicago. Despite the pedestrian numbers, the White Sox continue to view him as a viable option out of the bullpen.
The journeyman left-hander has had an unusual path to the majors, retiring from baseball in 2017 to work as a carpenter before making a comeback that eventually led to his MLB debut with the Boston Red Sox in 2024.
Gilbert’s Brief Return Ends
Tyler Gilbert’s latest stint with the White Sox comes to an end. The left-hander was used four times over the last 10 days out of the bullpen and was touched up for six runs in Wednesday’s loss to the Kansas City Royals.
Gilbert has bounced between Chicago and Charlotte throughout the year as the organization tries to find the best use for his talents. He also missed a significant portion of the early season, dealing with an MCL sprain that forced him to the IL in May. The former Arizona Diamondback showed promise early in his career but has struggled to find consistency at the major league level.
