Bucks County’s Lou Trivino made an impressive debut for his hometown team Wednesday night at Citi Field in New York.
Trivino, called up by the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday from the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, hurled a clean 1-2-3 eighth inning vs. the Mets, including a strikeout.

The right-handed reliever provided a rare Phillies highlight in an otherwise forgettable 6-0 loss to the second-place Mets, who completed a three-game sweep of the National League East-leading Phils. Mets rookie phenom Nolan McLean confounded the Phillies for eight shutout innings, limiting them to four baserunners. It was McLean’s third win in as many starts. He is also listed on the roster as a designated hitter, although he has yet to have an at bat at the MLB level.
Since signing as a minor league free agent on Aug. 4., West Rockhill Township native Trivino had thrown seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts in six appearances at Lehigh.

“Very thankful to be with the hometown team,” said Trivino via text message Tuesday night.
The 6-foot-5, 232-pound Trivino was a baseball standout for Pennridge Legion and the Quakertown Blazers of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League. He graduated from Upper Bucks Christian School.
Trivino, 33, is the former Athletics closer, highlighted by 22 saves in 2021. He has appeared in five playoff games, including his 2018 debut in which he shut out the New York Yankees over three innings in a wild card game, compiling a 0.96 postseason ERA in 9⅓ innings. He also pitched for the Yankees in 2022 after going to New York in a mid-season trade from the A’s.
