The Miesville Mudhens scored 8 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning today in the Class A State Amateur Baseball Tournament Championship at Gaylord.
The Champlin Park LoGators had a six run lead going into the bottom of the final inning after tacking 3 runs on the scoreboard.
The LoGators had a 6-run second inning, Mudhens scored 2 runs in the first, added another in the 5th before fireworks struck of the final inning ending in a 11-9 Miesville win.
The LoGators had 10 hits, 1 error, left 9 runners on base.
The Mudhens cracked 12 hits, with no errors and 11 runners left.
Joey Werner clobbered 2 home runs including the walk-off 2-run shot. Werner had 4 RBI. Ben Vujovich stroked 3 hits with 2 RBI and a stolen base.
Ronnie Sweeny, last year’s Class B Most Valuable Player had 2 hits, Lucas McNellis hammered 3 hits with 2 RBI.
Deryk Marks started the game on the hill for Miesville going the first 5 2/3 innings with 6 hits allowed, 6 runs, all earned, 3 walks, 2 strikeouts, 79 pitches, 52 strikes.
Jac Wright went the final 3 1/3 innings gave up 4 hits, 3 runs, all earned, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts, 69 pitches, 40 strikes.
It is the 7th state title for Miesville, 4th in the past 9 seasons. The Mudhens have been in 36 state tournaments.
Miesville also came from behind to win their semifinal match-up with Lyon’s Pub.
Ronnie Sweeny had 2 hits including a home run, Werner clubbed a homer, Marks added a home run, Alex Hendrickson a double, Lucas McNellis cracked two hits, and Matt Van Der Bosh executed two stolen bases.
The Mudhens used five pitchers in the game with Brody Illa earning the win and Marks securing a save.
The Pierz Lakers captured their first Class C State title in convincing fashion. They defeated the Roseau Royals in the semi-final 17-5 in seven innings before cruising to a 11-1 seven inning victory over the LeSueur Braces in the championship game at Brownton.
The Delano Athleticsv and New Ulm Brewers will play at 1:00 p.m. Monday, Septemer 1, 2025 for the Class B State title.
Delano dispatched Young America 6-2, and New Ulm got by Nisswa Lightning 7-5 to advance to the final amateur baseball game in Minnesota in 2025.
