Relief pitcher Brock Stewart, the most notable trade deadline acquisition for the Los Angeles Dodgers, made just four appearances in LA before landing on the injured list.

After allowing six hits and a pair of earned runs over 3.2 total innings to kick off his Dodgers career, Stewart landed on the injured list with shoulder inflammation earlier this month.

According to the Orange County Register’s Bill Plunkett, Stewart began playing catch last week but still felt discomfort in his shoulder.

He received another cortisone injection, according to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, and after a brief shutdown from throwing, Stewart has started playing catch again and provided an update as to how his shoulder has been.

“Already it’s calmed down,” Stewart said shortly after receiving the injections. “The (range of) motion is good. So yeah, I’m optimistic. … One day at a time.”

The skipper also gave a promising update on his new reliever, despite the recent setback.

“We’re still hopeful at some point in time in September we’ll get him back,” Roberts said.

Pitching injuries have unfortunately become synonymous with the Dodgers the past few seasons, but 2025 has presented tons of difficulty with the lack of depth. Stewart in his own right is no stranger to shoulder injuries, most recently dealing with shoulder tendinitis and a shoulder strain last season.

“Obviously, nothing I haven’t been through before, unfortunately,” Stewart said earlier this month. “Timelines are great and everything, plans are great and everything, but I still like to take it one day at a time, no matter if I’m healthy. From earlier this season up to this point, I took it one day at a time. And I’m not going to do anything different now. Just take everything one day at a time, and try to put my best foot forward and attack the rehab.”

A Stewart return ahead of October would be ideal for the Dodgers, especially with some of their other formerly injured pieces returning on both sides of the ball, but the hope is that he can get closer to the 2.38 ERA he flashed before his trade to LA.
