The Rangers were buyers at the trade deadline, adding RHP Merrill Kelly, among others, but things have not come together for them since then. They entered Sunday, Aug. 31, with a 13-14 record in August and were still 2 1/2 games out of a wild-card spot. They have also been hit hard with injuries, including losing SS Corey Seager, who had an appendectomy last week. It is unclear how long he will be out. 2B Marcus Semien is out with a foot injury and likely will miss the remainder of the regular season. The Rangers also lost RHP Nathan Eovaldi, who likely will not pitch again this season due to a rotator cuff issue. OF Wyatt Langford entered Aug. 31 with a .297/.434/.538 line with five homers in August. DH Joc Pederson has also started to heat up, with a .892 OPS in August.
