The Los Angeles Angels will conclude a nine-game road trip with a trip to Missouri to take on the Kansas City Royals in a three-game set.
Below, you can find the team previews, including where to watch, game details, injury reports, and odds.Â
Angels: Los Angeles (64-73) is fresh off a series split in a four game set against the Houston Astros. The Angels’ pitching held the Astros’ offense down by allowing only three runs over the first three games before Houston poured on eight runs in the series finale.
Despite the positives, concern remains as injuries may be altering the upcoming series. Outfielder Taylor Ward experienced a scare on Sunday in running face first into the metal left field wall in Daikin Park, causing a cut above his right eye and requiring 20 stitches. He is set to miss only a couple games.
Starter Tyler Anderson was placed on the injured list the same day, having suffered a left oblique strain. As a result, the Angels signed free agent starter José Ureña, who will seemingly factor into the rotation as Wednesday’s starter is TBD.
Tuesday’s starter was lined up to be Jack Kochanowicz, but the Angels will exercise their options as he struggled mightily in his last start in allowing 10 earned runs against the Texas Rangers.
Instead, Mitch Farris will get the call to make his major league debut on Tuesday. The lefty has pitched his way to 4.27 ERA over 116 innings in Double-A, recording 142 strikeouts. He will be making the jump straight from the Rocket City Trash Pandas, completely skipping over Triple-A action.
Royals: Kansas City (70-67) find themselves in the midst of the American League Wild Card hunt, sitting 2.5 games back of the final playoff spot.Â
The AL Central is out of question for the Royals, who trail the Detroit Tigers by nine games. They have played six of their last nine games against them, winning only two of six against Detroit.
The Royals will open the series with Angels’ old friend Michael Lorenzen, who has not pitched the strongest as of late. The Angels will also fare against rookie Ryan Bergert on Wednesday and Seth Lugo on Thursday, who finished second in AL Cy Young voting last year.Â
In order to come out on top, the Angels will have to try their best to silence the bat of star Bobby Witt Jr., who is hitting .344 in his last 25 games.Â
