With Hyeseong Kim and Michael Kopech officially back, here’s the latest on a handful of other injured Dodgers.
Roki Sasaki Injury Update
Sasaki has made three rehab starts at Triple-A Oklahoma City as he returns from his shoulder impingement, but manager Dave Roberts said he’ll need to make at least one more before he’s an option for the big league team.
“The thought is to get him through five innings (in his fourth rehab start),” Roberts said. “I think for us, it’s just trying to get some consistency out of him to build him up and also at this point in time, just to perform. Our starters are pitching well, so the bar’s high. This is a good learning process for Roki, just to continue to pound the hitting zone, the strike zone, command the baseball and perform.”
“The velocity needs to be consistent, the strike throwing needs to be consistent,” Roberts added. “Just the overall command.”
If Sasaki pitches will in his rehab start this week, he could theoretically join the team next week as a bullpen option. However, with his inconsistencies, the team may want to see a couple good outings before he returns.
Max Muncy Injury Update
Muncy was initially expected to return by this weekend with his oblique injury. However, an illness has pushed back his return timeline, with the Dodgers now targeting a return sometime next week.
The Dodgers return home on Monday, Sept. 8, which could be a target date for Muncy and LA.
Tommy Edman Injury Update
Edman is beginning a rehab assignment with Triple-A OKC on Tuesday as the team’s designated hitter. Roberts said he’ll only DH and play center field during his rehab stint, and is likely on pace for a return next week.
Tommy Edman is starting a rehab assignment with OKC in Sugar Land tonight. He’ll DH and bat second. Kyle Hurt also scheduled to start his rehab assignment.
Last year it was 16 players who rehabbed with OKC, and that is a lot. Edman and Hurt will make it 16 & 17 this year.
