PHOENIX — Arizona Diamondbacks rookie Jordan Lawlar snapped his 0-for-31 start in the major leagues this season with two hits in Tuesday’s 5-3 win over the Texas Rangers.

Ketel Marte walloped the go-ahead home run in the seventh inning, and reliever Taylor Rashi, back up from Triple-A Reno, delivered a six-out save, his second save in as many career appearances.

Lawlar, a 23-year-old who has been promoted as Arizona’s top prospect since Corbin Carroll in 2023, came into the game 0-for-30 in the major leagues this season and 0-for-his-last-36 dating back to his first cup of coffee in 2023.

After an 0-for-1 start to Tuesday’s game, he whacked a double to left-center field 107.9 mph off the bat in the fifth inning. Lawlar held off a first-pitch curveball down and jumped on a fastball.

The dugout was raucous as the weight had been lifted off a young player grinding to find a hole.

“ I’m not gonna lie, it feel pretty good,” Lawlar said. “It’s what you make it, I would say. Just remembering who you are, remembering everything that’s gotten to this level and it’s easier to say than actually do sometimes.”

In his next at-bat, Lawlar laced a line drive single into left field in the seventh inning. He checked off a sweeper away and attacked a 1-1 sinker over the plate.

He finished the game 2-for-3 and did not see a two-strike count. Manager Torey Lovullo felt Lawlar had been trapped in some pitcher’s counts and told him to go earlier.

“ I know he’s trying to do everything right and perfect, take pitches, see pitches, drive up pitch counts and different things,” Lovullo said. “I went to him before the day started. I said, ‘Go early if you need to go early, get your swing synced up. Just follow game plans and understand that nobody bullies you around the box. You can dominate.’”

“Just having the idea of being aggressive and playing my game,” Lawlar said.

Lawlar and outfielder Jorge Barrosa — who snapped an 0-for-12 skid — led off the seventh inning with singles to set the table for Marte in a 2-2 game.

Marte had homered in his previous three games against Texas, and he led off Tuesday with a double 119.6 mph off the bat, the hardest-hit ball of his career, according to Statcast.

Rangers pitcher Hoby Milner threw Marte a low changeup, and Marte clobbered it 414 feet for his 25th home run of the season.

He became the fourth player in franchise history to hit 25 or more home runs in four seasons wearing the uniform (Luis Gonzalez, Paul Goldschmidt and Christian Walker).

Nabil Crismatt continues to shove for Diamondbacks

Before the late offensive surge, Tuesday’s game was a pitcher’s duel between Arizona’s Nabil Crismatt and Texas southpaw Jacob Latz.

Crismatt continues to give the Diamondbacks quality innings after he signed a minor league deal with the club last month and was selected in place of the injured Anthony DeSclafani. He has been with five organizations since the start of last season and has so far taken advantage of the opportunity in Arizona.

Crismatt threw 6.1 innings with two earned runs on Tuesday, and he could have prevented any scoring had a couple dives in the outfield not come up short.

He induced three double plays, keeping the ball consistently on the ground and forcing weak contact.

“ I just love it,” Crismatt said of the opportunity. “I feel every day that’s my game, to be a starter. I feel I can study hitters and can prepare myself, read hitters and I feel I’m putting everything together this year.”

Through four appearances with the D-backs, Crismatt has a 2.14 ERA. He’s thrown five or more innings with two or fewer earned runs in all three of his starts. He also tossed four scoreless innings in his lone relief appearance.
