Waxahachie 1

Rockwall’s pitchers held Waxahachie to only two runs in two baseball games as the Yellowjackets took the Class 6A, Division I area playoff series by scores of 7-1 and 4-1.

The Yellowjackets, who are now 28-8 for the season, advanced to the region semifinals to play 19-7-3 Klein Cain. Cain won its area series, 2-0 and 2-1 over The Woodlands.

The regional semifinals were to begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Cain. Game 2 is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Rockwall. If a Game 3 is necessary it is to be played at 1 p.m. Saturday at Dallas Jesuit.

Rockwall pitcher Hudson Holt limited Waxahachie to four hits, one walk and one earned run in six innings during the Jackets’ 7-1 win. Holt struck out five.

Dylan Rice struck out three in one inning of hitless relief.

Holt tripled and drove in a run for the Jackets in that game. 

E.J. Menchaca also tripled and had two hits and scored three runs.

Brent Celis pounded two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs.

Jake Pickering doubled and drove in two runs.

Charles Mahaffey and Victor Montanez both singled and scored. 

Tristan Raley drove in a run.

Drew Paulino singled twice for Waxahachie and drove in the Indians’ only run.

Vince Estrada allowed seven hits, two walks and one earned run in five innings of Rockwall’s 4-1 victory. He struck out two.

Menchaca allowed one hit and no runs in two innings of relief.

Dylan Cheek drove in two runs for the Jackets in the 4-1 win and had one hit. Holt singled, drove in a run and scored a run. Mahaffey and Raley both singled and scored. Menchaca scored. Montanez drove in a run and Mason Pate tripled.

Brodie Kelly doubled and drove in Waxahachie’s only run as the Indians finished the season with a 21-14 record.

Cain needed 14 innings to beat The Woodlands in the second game of their series. Cain scored the winning run on an error.

Blaine Bullard homered in the first inning for the Hurricanes’ other run.

Three Cain pitchers combined to limit The Woodlands to eight hits and one unearned run in 14 innings.

 

Midway 5

Heath 2

Waco Midway downed Rockwall-Heath 5-4 and 5-2 to claim their Class 6A, Division I area baseball playoff series.

Midway, now 26-6 for the season, advanced to the region semifinals to play Conroe, which beatKlein Collins 4-2 and 4-2 in Games 1 and 3 of their series. Collins won Game 2 3-0.

Heath finished the season with a 21-12 final record.

Midway scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to claim the 5-4 win in the first game.

Alex Cooley ripped two singles and a double and scored a run to lead the Hawks at the plate.

Hunter Bulin singled and scored a run.

Landon Ammerman doubled.

Maddox Webb and Parker Ivy both had runs and RBIs. 

Brady Ladusau scored a run.

Ammerman, who started on the mound for the Hawks, allowed seven hits, five walks and four earned runs  in six innings with seven strikeouts.

Brady Quinn homered for Midway and Garrett Wiethorn and T.J. Woodson both doubled.

Midway pitchers Colt Holmes and Brody Potts limited the Hawks to only three hits in Midway’s 5-2 win. They combined for seven strikeouts.

Ammerman recorded two hits and a run for Heath, which also collected a hit from Colten Fiveash. Ladusau scored a run and Cooley drove in a run.

Heath pitchers Ian Rister and Tyson Barkley combined for eight strikeouts.

David Litle doubled twice and led Midway with three RBIs.
