After a dominant month of August, Orioles pitcher Trevor Rogers has won the American League Pitcher of the Month. Rogers has been one of the best pitchers in the AL this season since returning to the Orioles rotation back in July. In August he dominated opponents with a league-best 1.29 earned run average in 42 innings pitched going 4-1 in six starts. He has been at the lead of an Orioles rotation that has been surprisingly effective in the second half of the season. He is tied for fifth in wins above replacement rating (WAR) in the MLB despite only making half of the starts of the other players on the list. If he continues on his current hot streak he would have the highest single-season pitcher WAR rating since Eric Bedard in 2007 (5.7). Rogers’ performance this season, along with the return of pitchers Kyle Bradish and Tyler Wells, offers Orioles fans some hope for rotation next year. The Orioles acquired Rogers last season from the Miami Marlins in exchange for prospects Kyle Stowers and Connor Norby. At first, the trade did not work out in the Orioles favor as Rogers struggled with his first stint with the team. A dislocated knee injury delayed his debut this season, but it was worth the wait. He looks like the front-of-the-rotation starter that the Orioles have been seeking and has eased the pain of trading away a 2024 All-Star in Stowers.
