KANSAS CITY — Despite being on a good streak of games as of late, the Angels could not secure the series sweep over the Kansas City Royals, dropping a close one at Kauffman Stadium by a final score of 4-3.Â
The Halos got off to a quick start offensively in the top half of the first, as Los Angeles had runners on first and second with Luis Rengifo up to the plate. He would catch Royals starter Noah Cameron’s 1-1 slider at the knees and launch it 384 feet to left field to propel the Angels ahead of Kansas City early, 3-0.Â
The Royals would win this game by slowly inching themselves closer and closer by way of the long ball, with the first one being hit in the second inning. Royals left fielder Adam Frazier would make contact with Angels starter Kyle Hendricks’ 1-0 sinker to put Kansas City on the board.Â
Their next home run would come in the fourth inning, by way of another solo, this time hit by first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino for his 29th long ball of the season, cutting the Angels’ lead down to just one.Â
After a rocky first inning for the right-hander, Royals starter Cameron settled in after the three-run home run, providing Kansas City with a solid performance on the bump. Cameron finished his evening tossing five innings, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five Angels.Â
Offense from both sides would simmer for a few innings until the home runs appeared again for the Royals in the seventh. Catcher Salvador Perez would greet Angels right-hander José Fermin with a solo home run on a full count to tie the game 3-3. Bobby Witt Jr. would finish the theatrics and complete the comeback for Kansas City as he would launch the fourth Royals home run, this time off Halos right-hander Ryan Zeferjahn.Â
Offensively, the Angels could not spark any form of offense, even when men were rarely on base, and the Royals’ bullpen held it down enough for their offense to catch up, only allowing one hit through the final four innings of play.Â
The Angels will look to get back on the win column starting tomorrow as they travel back to Anaheim to host the Athletics for a three-game weekend series as José Soriano takes the mound for the Halos.Â
