Rockies Report, Game 141:

ROCKIES BOTTOM LINE: Moved up in the rotation after an ejection ended his Tuesday-night start after just eight pitches, Kyle Freeland dominated the San Diego Padres on Friday night, striking out 10 while allowing just two hits and no walks as the Rockies snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-0 win at Coors Field on Friday night.

Freeland’s strikeout tally matched a career-high.

Hunter Goodman’s solo home run in the third inning — his 28th homer of the season — was all the offense the Rockies would need Friday night, but it wouldn’t be the end of the night’s work for the All-Star catcher, as he brought home Mickey Moniak with an RBI double in the seventh inning for the Rockies’ final run of the evening.

Jordan Beck’s RBI single in the fifth provided the rest of the offense.

Goodman went 3-for-3 with a walk; Moniak and Kyle Karros each chipped in with a pair of hits apiece.

Colorado improved to 40-101.

ROCKIES STARTER’S REPORT

Freeland carried a perfect game into the fifth inning before Ramón Laureano finally reached base with a double, but then got out of the inning within eight pitches on a fly ball and a strikeout.

Laureano’s double came after Freeland had opened the game by retiring 13 consecutive Padres; afterward, he got the next 10 in succession before Jose Iglesias singled with two outs in the eighth.

At just 88 pitches through eight innings, interim manager Warren Schaeffer opted to insert Victor Vodnik to close out the game, in part because of the unusual week for Freeland with the brief cameo Tuesday night.

This was Freeland’s fourth quality start in his last seven trips to the mound, and just his fourth win of the season as he improved to 4-14.
