KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Kansas City Royals pitcher Seth Lugo was scheduled to start Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels entering the week.
Lugo’s anticipated Thursday start was instead skipped, and left-hander Noah Cameron will start for the Royals as the 35-year-old was placed on the injured list Thursday.
The Royals announced that Lugo was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a lower back strain.
In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Stephen Kolek was recalled from Triple-A Omaha. Kolek made a start for the Royals on Saturday against the Detroit Tigers, going 6 innings and allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run in a 3-1 Royals win.

Lugo has struggled as of late. Dating back to August 8, Lugo made five starts, registering a quality start in just one of them and allowing 6 or more runs in three of them.
His ERA has ballooned from sub-3.00 to a 4.15 currently.
On July 27, Lugo and the Royals agreed to a multi-year extension after he spent much of June and July rumored to be on the trading block.
The Royals are currently 2.5 games back of the final AL Wild Card spot. They are still without left-hander Cole Ragans, who has been on the injured list since the middle of June.
