PITTSBURGH – The Milwaukee Brewers will try for a series sweep on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 7 as they play the Pittsburgh Pirates for the final time in 2025 at PNC Park.
In a battle of flamethrowing rookie right-handers, Jacob Misiorowski (4-2, 4.50) starts for the Brewers while Bubba Chandler (2-0, 2.25) goes for the Pirates.
Christian Yelich is out for a fifth straight game, although he indicated he had experienced improvement with his sore lower back.
Brewers break out the bats against Bubba
What a start the Brewers got out to against baseball’s No. 15 overall prospect.
Brice Turang and Isaac Collins opened with singles, William Contreras walked to load the bases and Jake Bauers ripped a two-run double down the first-base line for his fifth and sixth runs batted in already in the series.
An Andrew Vaughn single then made it 3-0, and Caleb Durbin’s double-play grounder upped Milwaukee’s advantage to 4-0.
Chandler needed 27 pitches in all to navigate the first inning.
Misiorowski didn’t get off to the greatest of starts, either, as he walked the first two batters he faced. But he followed up with a fielder’s choice and then a 5-4-3 double play to emerge from the jam unscathed.
Milwaukee tacked on a fifth run as Danny Jansen doubled to start the second, Joey Ortiz singled him to third to snap an 0-for-15 skid and a wild pitch by Chandler allowed Jansen to scamper home.
A sixth potential tally was cut down at the plate when Ortiz tried scoring on a grounder to first baseman Spencer Horwitz with the infield in.
