The Colorado Rockies, who enjoyed winning against Dodgers in their last series, had a scary moment on Monday night when young infielder Warming Bernabel went down with a brutal injury. In the first inning against the LA, Bernabel chased a foul popup near the right-field line and slammed his head and neck against a metal pole. He looked shaken, with blood visible near his ear, and trainers quickly rushed to him.

The good news was that Bernabel was able to walk off the field on his own. Kyle Farmer later replaced him. But the sight left teammates, coaches, and fans concerned. Manager Warren Schaeffer later confirmed Warming Bernabel suffered a head injury, though the team will wait for further tests before making any decision on a concussion list.

Before the injury, Warming Bernabel had been building momentum in the Rockies’ lineup. He had gone just 1-for-32 across a ten-game slump, but then bounced back with a 5-for-7 stretch, including a walk, during the prior two games.

Notably, Warming Bernabel was not the only Rockies player who suffered an injury. Pitcher Chase Dollander exited the game in the sixth inning with left knee discomfort. Meanwhile, Ryan Ritter turned his ankle and left the game in the ninth inning.

During the game, despite the injuries, the Rockies actually grabbed a brief lead. A walk-steal-flyout sequence produced a run, and Farmer’s sacrifice fly extended Colorado’s advantage. But strong pitching by Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow and the bullpen helped Los Angeles cruise to a 3-1 win.

The Rockies will aim to bounce back in Game 2 on Tuesday and hope to rebound despite being out of the playoff race. Hopefully, Warming Bernabel will get back on the field.
