The U.S. Naval War College will host the eighth annual Cardines Classic on Oct. 3 at Cardines Field, featuring Naval War College students in World War I-era uniforms.
The Army vs. Navy game begins at 5:30 p.m. at the ballpark at 20 America’s Cup Ave. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. Admission is free.
The event recreates the role baseball played during World War I. Naval War College students will play as both Army and Navy teams wearing authentic WWI-era uniforms.
The rain date is Oct. 10.
The event is organized through collaboration between the Naval War College, Naval History and Heritage Command, and the Naval War College Foundation. The Pritzker Military Foundation provides support on behalf of the Pritzker Military Museum & Library.
The Naval War College has hosted the annual game since 2018, with previous games occasionally rescheduled due to weather.
Cardines Field, built in 1908, is considered one of the oldest ballparks in the United States. The field was renamed for Bernardo Cardines, Newport’s first resident to die in World War I.
