Rockies Report, Game 145:
ROCKIES BOTTOM LINE: Hunter Goodman became the first full-time National League catcher to hit the 30-home run plateau in 22 years with a ninth-inning blast over the left-field fence, but it was far from enough as Colorado dropped its seventh game in its last eight outings, this won by a 7-2 count to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Goodman, the Rockies’ lone All-Star selection this season, also became their first 30-homer player since Nolan Arenado, Charlie Blackmon and Trevor Story did so in 2019.
He’s also the first catcher in Colorado history to hit 30 home runs in a single season. Atlanta’s Javy López was the last NL catcher to reach 30 homers, with 37 in 2003.
Goodman’s ninth-inning shot off Kirby Yates provided some salve on a night where the Rox fell behind in the second inning when Will Smith scored on a Germán Márquez wild pitch and never came close to catching up.
Los Angeles had nine hits; six were of the extra-base variety.
Emmet Sheehan confounded the Rockies for most of the night. One evening after Colorado was no-hit until the ninth inning, Sheehan was perfect through five innings, discombobulating the Rox with his slider.

Finally, Kyle Karros broke the drought by leading off the sixth with a single to left field. Tyler Freeman brought him home for Colorado’s first run of the night.
But that would represent the sum total of the Rockies’ offense until Goodman etched his name into Rockies history.
Colorado is 40-105.
ROCKIES STARTER’S REPORT
Márquez would have needed to be perfect to keep pace with Sheehan. After a perfect first inning, he was anything but.
A leadoff double by Smith in the second inning proved costly when he threw a wild pitch to Teooscar Hernández, scoring the Dodgers’ first run. Mookie Betts and Hernández went deep off Márquez in the third an fourth innings, respectively.
Márquez has now allowed at least one home run in each of his last eight starts dating back to June 24. He took the loss and fell to 3-13.
BITS AND PIECES
IT WAS DECIDED FOR THE ROCKIES WHEN: Mickey Moniak hit into a 4-6-3 double play with two on and one out in the sixth, preventing the Rox from a needed big inning after they entered it trailing 5-0.
NUMBER TO NOTE: 15 — Consecutive Colorado batters retired by Sheehan to open the game.
WHAT’S NEXT: Kyle Freeland looks for his second-consecutive win as the Rox try and salvage a win from the series finale. Blake Snell starts for the Dodgers in a game that will start at 8:10 p.m. MDT.
