ATLANTA – After growing up in Braves country his entire life, Logan Braunschweig got a call from the Atlanta Braves with an opportunity to begin his professional baseball career.

The Alabaster native and Thompson and UAB product Braunschweig was drafted 277th overall by the Braves in the ninth round of the 2025 MLB Draft at the Coca-Cola Roxy in Atlanta on Monday, July 14.

Braunschweig will have the chance to enter the Braves system after a four-year career at UAB which saw him become one of the top players for the Blazers.

As a senior, Braunschweig secured a spot on the Rawlings Gold Glove team for college baseball. He also earned All-Conference Second Team honors for the second-straight season.

He ranked sixth in Division I baseball with 9.0 outs above average and finished with a .974 fielding percentage off of his 154 total chances. He also had four outfield assists on the season.

For his career, he earned a .977 fielding percentage off 438 total chances across 196 appearances in four seasons. He ended his Blazers career with 11 outfield assists.

Braunschweig led the American Athletic Conference with 27 stolen bases in his senior season and ranked third in runs scored with 52. He finished seventh in UAB history in both statistics for his career.

This past season, he earned 65 hits, 52 runs, 14 doubles and seven home runs. He also led the team with 19 multi-hit games as well as in runs, doubles and stolen bases. Braunschweig set career highs for hits, runs, doubles, home runs and stolen bases as a result of his performance.

In all, Braunschweig finished with a .319 batting average and .937 OPS. He reached base in 50 of his 53 starts.

Braunschweig was an All-State outfielder at Thompson after he led the Warriors with a .391 average in 2021 while amassing 43 hits, the third-highest haul in the county. He earned an All-State Honorable Mention in that season along with All-County Second Team honors.

Braunschweig adds his name to a decorated list of recent Thompson players to be drafted, including Bub Terrell in 2024 and Carson Hobbs in 2023. Former Warriors ace Drew Avans also recently made his major league debut with the Athletics in May.
