It turns out Spencer Jones and George Lombard aren’t untouchable after all.

The Yankees were willing to deal both prospects to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Paul Skenes, arguably the best pitcher in baseball, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

If you’re the Yankees, you would have to make that deal. But it never came to fruition.

Skenes is 10-9 with a 1.92 ERA and 203 strikeouts.

Heyman reported the Yankees offer was unrelated to Livvy Dunne, Skenes’ girlfriend, shopping around New York City for a new apartment. A co-op board reportedly denied her application to purchase Babe Ruth’s former apartment on the Upper West Side.
