The red-hot Seattle Mariners (79-68) continue their series against the Los Angeles Angels (69-78) tonight at T-Mobile Park, looking to extend their six-game winning streak.

Seattle’s late-season surge has come at the perfect time. The Mariners are now tied with the Houston Astros for first place in the AL West and also for the American League’s final Wild Card spot.

The Texas Rangers are charging hard too, just two games back after four straight wins, making the closing weeks of the season a high-stakes sprint in both the division and Wild Card races.

After leaning on their staff to shut down the St. Louis Cardinals this week, the bats carried the load in Thursday’s extra-inning win over the Angels. Mike Trout’s 21st home run of the year — leaving him one shy of 400 for his career — kept Los Angeles in it, but Seattle’s Harry Ford sealed the game with a walk-off sacrifice fly in the 12th.

On the mound tonight, Luis Castillo (9–8, 3.85 ERA) looks to build on a solid outing against the Atlanta Braves after a rough stretch in August. He’s 1–2 with a 6.29 ERA in his last seven starts, but limited the Braves to just one run over six innings on Sunday.

Yusei Kikuchi (6–11, 4.18 ERA) gets the start for the Angels. He’s been rocked for 18 runs in just 11.2 innings over his last three starts, including a rough outing against Seattle earlier this summer.

Predictions

Both starters have been shaky, but Seattle’s hot bats and home momentum should carry them.

Predictions: Mariners 7, Angels 5
