HOMER-CENTER — Homer-Center scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to help put away Glendale 4-1 on Thursday in the first round of the District 6 Class A playoffs.

The Lady Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, as Bekah Marshall reached on a two-base error in the outfield.

Marshall went to third on a wild pitch before coming home on a sac fly by Kyhlee Beer.

Homer-Center added three more runs in the fifth.

Jo Howard singled with one out, then moved to second on a wild pitch.

Marshall drew a walk before Glendale starter Madison Peterson struck out the next batter looking.

Beer then singled in to left, scoring both Howard and Marshall to make it 3-0.

A Melanie George RBI single into left brought Beer around to increase the lead to 4-0.

Taylor Rado singled to mov George to second, but Peterson got Madison Brendinger to strike out swinging to end the inning.

The Lady Vikings scored their only run in the top of the sixth with two outs.

Peterson doubled into left, then moved to third on a wild pitch.

Ava Weld drew a walk to put runners on the corners.

Another wild pitch from Marshall allowed Peterson to come home, cutting the lead to 4-1.

Weld was left stranded on second when Marshall struck out the next batter to end the inning.

Glendale had just five hits on the day, including Peterson’s double.

Weld had two hits, while Emma Gilbey and Elizabeth Kaufman also had singles.

Peterson took the loss, surrendering three earned runs on seven hits and three walks. She struck out seven.

It was the third meeting between the two teams this year, with Glendale taking the first game of a doubleheader at Homer-Center, 11-7. The Lady Wildcats won the second game 12-3.

Glendale finished the season at 8-14.

Homer-Center improved to 11-10. The Lady Wildcats travel to face top-seeded Claysburg-Kimmel on Monday in the quarterfinals.
