We’ve reached the penultimate week of the 2025 MLB regular season. For some, this is the finals for fantasy baseball playoffs. And for others, it’s one of two more weeks left to get the job done. With Week 24 of the 2025 fantasy baseball season on the horizon, here’s a look at five pitchers worth targeting on the wire.
Best Week 24 pitchers to target
Another week, another reliever to target.
Andrew Kittredge has taken hold of the Cubs’ closer role in recent days. Daniel Palencia went on the IL, and Kittredge, acquired from Baltimore at the deadline, stepped in and hasn’t missed a beat. The right-hander has three saves and hasn’t allowed a run across 5.2 IP.
There’s another Cub worth looking at this week, and that’s Jameson Taillon. Taillon is on pace to pitch twice for the Cubs this week, as Chicago looks to nail down a playoff berth. He’ll get his former team, the Pirates, on September 15 and will likely get the Reds this weekend.
Hurston Waldrep, firmly on the radar for 2026, will take a 2.76 ERA into Washington this week against the Nationals. He had a very poor start this past weekend against the Astros. However, that outing was the first in which he gave up more than two runs in a start this year at the MLB level.
Ryan Weathers is one of several Marlins (hint: Eury Perez, Sandy Alcantara) who will start against the Rockies this week. Pitchers in Colorado are not fun for fantasy but Weathers, who does generate higher-than-average ground balls, may be able take advantage of the Rockies this week.
In his last start, Weathers struck out four over five scoreless innings in Miami against the Nationals.
Lastly, Tyler Wells figures to match up against the White Sox on the road this week. Wells has been very good in his first two starts back from UCL reconstruction surgery. The 31-year-old struck out 10 over 11.2 IP and is a machine when it comes to getting chases and limiting walks.
Overview of Week 23
Emmet Sheehan was money in Week 23, as the Dodgers right-hander struck out nine and gave up just one run over seven innings to lock up a win against the Rockies. He’s someone worth watching this coming week. However, he’ll have a stiff matchup against Ranger Suarez and the Phillies.
Adrian Houser, meanwhile, was very effective back in Chicago this week. Houser struck out 11 over 11.1 IP across two starts but couldn’t get a win.
Shawn Armstrong picked up two more saves as he continues to hold onto the Rangers’ closer job.
Ryan Bergert had a week to forget, though, while Jose Soriano was pushed back from his scheduled start against the Twins and didn’t do well against the Mariners.
