GREEN BAY (WLUK) — For the third straight season the Brewers are postseason bound.
After the Mets lost to the Rangers, Saturday afternoon, the Brewers’ spot was clinched, but Milwaukee still had a game to play.
After trailing the Cardinals by four runs in the 8th and three in the 9th on Saturday, the Brewers walked it off in the 10th.
“That’s kind of been the Brewers mantra this season, they’ve come back from behind, never give up attitude, they just keep going,” said Adam Clemens, a Brewers fan.
“It was an incredible game, and this Brewers team never ceases to surprise me. Big moments this year, I think they can make a really good run in the playoffs too,” said Tristan Wendt, a Brewers fan.
The Brewers have won the division the past two seasons and are closing in on making it three in a row.
“Honestly, at the beginning of the year, clinching the NL Central was definitely not on my mind at all, I thought we were gonna have an ok year, but yeah, without a doubt we’re gonna clinch the NL Central,” said Wendt.
“I would hope that they clinch the NL Central, I just want to see them move past that. Clinching the division is great, don’t get me wrong, but you gotta get out of the first round. That’s what makes good teams great,” said Clemens.
What needs to be different?
“I think they need to put together some offense in the postseason. I mean, they’ve done a good job getting there and they kinda die come playoff time and I really wanna see them get some more offense,” said Clemens.
Fans are still optimistic.
“Obviously, last year got a new manager in Pat Murphy, but I think this year is different. He’s got playoff experience now, and this is the year to do it, it really is,” said Wendt.
The death of long-time broadcaster Bob Uecker has also given the Brewers motivation. Uecker even left the team a note for when they clinched a postseason berth.
“Use it as a rallying cry, do it for Ueck, do it for all Brewer fans, but I really do hope they use Uecker’s passing as fuel for their fire, cause Ueck really deserves it,” said Clemens.
“That’s a really powerful note, and it’s motivation and I could see them doing a lot. What they’ve been doing this year, I think it’s all about Uecker,” said Justin McCormick, a Brewers fan.
The World Series is on the mind of many Brewers’ fans.
Milwaukee’s only World Series appearance came in 1982. Could they get there again this year?
“It’d be amazing, it’d be an all-time thing. I’d definitely buy a world series ticket,” said McCormick.
“I’ve witnessed the Bucks’ championship, the Packers’ championship, it’d be awesome to get the big three,” said Wendt.
The World Series can be elusive, but Milwaukee has certainly positioned themselves to finally chase it down.
