The Mariners look to wrap up a mopping of the Angels today in game 4 of a four-game set. They send out George Kirby to keep the good run going. Kirby will go up against Kyle Hendricks, who’s looking to disrupt the Mariners’ recent eight-game winning streak.

Kirby is coming off a rough outing against St. Louis last time out, going only four innings and giving up three runs on seven hits. The hope is that he can get back on track for the remainder of the season today. The odds are in his favor. Kirby has a stellar record against Anaheim traditionally, including a career high 14 strikeouts against the semi-Los Angeles-based team the last time he faced them back in June. The Mariners are 7-4 when Kirby goes 6+ innings as opposed to 4-5 when he does not. The key for the Mariners today will be getting a dominant start out of Kirby and going deep into the game. The Mariners have made quick work of the Angels’ bullpen over the last few games, so putting them back out in front of the Mariners’ lineup early will be to their advantage.

2016 – Hisashi Iwakuma earned his career-high 16th win of the season, tossing 6.1 innings and allowing 1 run on 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 2 in a 2-1 contest against the Angels. His 16 wins tied for second most in a single season by a Japanese pitcher in MLB history (others: Hideo Nomo 3x, Hiroki Kuroda, Yu Darvish). Only Daisuke Matsuzaka had more (18 in 2008).

2022 – Julio Rodríguez reaches the 25-homer, 25-stolen base milestone in a win against San Diego…he became the first player to reach the milestone in his debut season, and the 3rd rookie in MLB history to reach it.
