Pirates 2024 first round draft pick and MLB No. 1 overall prospect Konnor Griffin put together another strong week at the plate during the Altoona Curve’s final regular season series, logging three multi-hit games across five games played.
Griffin went 3-for-5 with four RBI and a home run on Wednesday, Sept. 10, kicking off his week in style, then picked up a pair of singles on two separate occasions. The 19-year-old finished the regular season with a .337/.418/.542 slash line between Bradenton, Greensboro and Altoona with 21 home runs and 65 stolen bases. Per Eric Cross of RotoBaller, that makes Griffin the first minor league player to hit above .330 with more than 20 home runs and 60 stolen bases since Tom Romano, who did so in 1982 at the age of 23, four years older than Griffin is now.
The Curve will take part in a Divisional Round playoff series against the Erie Seawolves, so Pirates fans will have another chance to see Griffin in action this season.
The Greensboro Grasshoppers saw their season come to an end in a playoff sweep despite finishing with a .672 winning percentage. Former undrafted free agent Callan Moss, a part of the Bailey Falter trade, hit a home run with two outs in the ninth to help Greensboro cut their deficit to 4-3 during the first game of their series, but the Grasshoppers never managed to come up with a win.
Catcher Rafael Flores hit his sixth home run since joining Indianapolis at the trade deadline (36 games), and Duce Gourson finished a triple shy of the cycle in Altoona on Friday, Sept. 12.
27-year-old pitching prospect Nick Dombkowski dealt that same day, fanning 11 batters across 6.1 innings in Triple-A Indianapolis.
