Manhattan High softball suffered its second consecutive sweep to end the regular season campaign on Thursday, falling 10-0 and 6-4 at Hays.

The Indians (7-15) finished in 13th of the 6A West regional, while recording a Centennial League record of 4-6.

In the opener, a strong 4-0 start in the first inning put Hays in the driver’s seat. After plating one more in the third and putting together a five-run fifth inning, Hays had a five-inning 10-0 shutout of Manhattan.

Freshman pitcher Josi Alesana pitched all 4 1/3 innings for the Indians, allowing 10 runs on 11 hits and four walks. The Manhattan offense was held to just three hits by the Hays hurler Jaylee Summers.

In Game 2, Hays took an early advantage again at 3-0 after the first inning. The Hays Indians extended the lead to 6-0 in the fifth, but a late comeback by Manhattan kept it close.

Manhattan took advantage of a couple of Hays mistakes in the sixth, plating its first run of the day and loading the bases for Alesana at the dish. The freshman delivered with a three-RBI double to bring the score to 6-4.

Unfortunately for Manhattan, the rally ended there as Hays set down the remaining four batters in order to secure the sweep.

Sophomore starter Solveig Chase kept Hays in check across six innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on eight hits and three strikeouts.

Regional play starts on Monday, with official bracket assignments yet to be announced ahead of press time.Â
