Pennsylvania native Trey Yesavage made his MLB debut on Monday and was sensational in a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

The 22-year-old from Boyertown struck out 9 batters and allowed only 1 earned run over 5-plus innings of work in the victory.

Yesavage set a record for most strikeouts by a Blue Jays pitcher in their debut in the win, and his family was in attendance to watch the impressive outing.

As you can see below, Yesavage’s family loved what it saw from him, and his father was fighting back tears as he exited the mound.

Yesavage’s father, Dave, spoke with CBC News: The National about his son’s performance. Needless to say, he was a proud father watching the strong outing.

“A lot of emotions just really swirl around in your head,” Dave Yesavage said. “It was his Major League debut as a right-handed pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays.

“I just know how hard he has worked and it is paying off. … You’re just kind of living through your son, because that’s gotta be a lot of stress when he’s standing out there on that mound and all eyes are on you. It’s a true test of what you’ve got.”

Trey Yesavage allowed back-to-back hits to open the game as the Rays took an early 1-0 lead. However, he was dominant from that point forward.

He did not allow a hit from the second inning through the fifth inning, before surrendering a single to open the sixth.

Yesavage then exited the game as his family and others cheered him on.

“As he was walking off the field and folks were clapping, you just take a breath, and man, I was so happy for him,” Dave Yesavage said.

Trey Yesavage is fighting for a spot on the Blue Jays postseason roster and he made a strong case that he deserves one with the way he threw Monday.

The Former East Carolina University ace started this season with the Blue Jays’ Single-A affiliate before working his way up the minors.

Prior to making his MLB debut, Yesavage made 25 appearances in the minor leagues this season across four levels – Dunedin (A), Vancouver (A+), New Hampshire (AA) and Buffalo (AAA). He held a 3.58 ERA with 160 strikeouts in 98.0 innings pitched in the minors this season.

Trey Yesavage was selected by the Blue Jays with the No. 20 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft. He is ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the Blue Jays organization.
