One of the two remaining names from the Dodgers‘ Opening Day rotation, Dustin May will make his eighth start of the year on Friday night, closing in on his career-high 10 starts, a mark achieved back in 2020, May’s only fully healthy season.

No team other than the Yankees really knows the level of committed cash to the injured list that the Dodgers currently do, but the Angels aren’t strangers to the concept either. Currently, in last place in the American League West, and on their way to yet another melancholic campaign, the Angels have their two highest-paid players on the IL. Mike Trout is dealing with knee issues for yet another season, and Anthony Rendon didn’t even get an at-bat in 2025, sidelined since February after undergoing hip surgery.

Heading into Dodger Stadium with a team ERA over 5.00, and an 84 OPS+, not a lot has gone right for the Angels this season. Zach Neto and old friend Tyler Anderson represent some of the few silver linings about this team’s campaign.

Nearly a week after one of his toughest battles in the big leagues, trying to go toe-to-toe with Corbin Burnes and the Dbacks, Dustin May will get a much easier task against one of the worst offenses in the AL. May was really good against Arizona, but evidently not good enough in a day in which Dodger bats were silenced by Burnes.

Receiving a combined three runs of support in his last two starts, May lost both of these games, taking his record down to 1-3. May is one loss away from having a .500 record as a big leaguer, currently at 13-12.

If the offense hasn’t been up to par in May’s recent outings, the last two showings surely paint a more promising picture. The Dodgers scored a combined 28 runs, winning two straight against the Athletics, the latest of those wins with a pair of homers from Shohei Ohtani.

Speaking of Ohtani, although the sample size is rather small, Ohtani’s numbers versus the Angels should be highlighted. The three-time MVP has an .854 SLG in four games against the Angels, including a pair of homers. That slugging percentage is the highest for Ohtani against any team in the bigs.
