WEST CHESTER TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) — A historic submarine is beginning to take shape on land as pieces of the Cold War Memorial Peace Pavilion come together.
Once completed, the pavilion will feature a full-sized replica of the USS Cincinnati.
An actual engine, dubbed “The Big Red Machine” after the Cincinnati Reds baseball team, has arrived at Voice of America Park. The submarine was named in honor of the team, as it was built during the Reds’ World Series victory in the 1970s.
New renderings have been released, showcasing what the 362-foot-long pavilion will look like. The structure is being constructed to honor the United States’ investments during the Cold War.
The pavilion is scheduled to open next spring, coinciding with the celebration of the United States’ 250th birthday.
