The Washington Nationals hope to win the finale and avoid the series sweep at the hands of the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday.
The Atlanta Braves go for the four-game series sweep against the Washington Nationals on the road on Wednesday afternoon. Atlanta dominated in the opener 11-3 and then went on to win both games in the doubleheader on Tuesday. The first game was a makeup from May in which the Braves won 6-3. They then would follow that up with a 5-0 win in 10 innings for the nightcap. Atlanta now leads this season series 5-3. These two Nationals League East rivals will play their last series of the season next week. Atlanta will now go for its fifth win in a row on Wednesday. Washington has lost four of its last five games and is trying to end a three-game losing streak

But the bottom fell out for the Nationals in the 10th, with the Braves scoring five in the final inning. Chris Sale pitched great but didn’t get the win after striking out nine in eight scoreless innings and only giving up three hits. Olson came up clutch once again. It wasn’t a homer, but the Braves first baseman hit a bases-loaded triple in the 10th to secure the win.
Atlanta will go for the series sweep by starting Hurston Waldrep, who is 4-1 with a 2.78 ERA in seven starts. Washington will try to avoid losing four in a row by starting Brad Lord, who is 5-8 with a 4.21 ERA.
