The Arizona Diamondbacks have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Austin Pope from Triple-A Reno ahead of Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies, the team announced.
Pitcher Jake Woodford was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
Drafted by the D-backs in the 15th round in 2019, Pope has pitched in 31 games this season in Reno. He has posted a 4.38 ERA in 37 innings pitched with 43 strikeouts and a 1.43 WHIP.
Woodford’s designation comes after he last pitched against the Phillies on Friday where the righty struggled. He surrendered four earned runs on five hits with two walks in two innings pitched.
He pitched in 22 games for the D-backs this season, posting a 0-6 record with a 6.44 ERA and 23 strikeouts.
Diamondbacks’ next game
After winning 4-3 on Saturday, the D-backs wrap up a three-game series against the Phillies on Sunday.
The D-backs enter the finale two games back of the New York Mets for the final Wild Card Spot in the National League, with the Cincinnati Reds just one game back.
Eduardo Rodriguez takes the mound for the D-backs against Phillies lefty Ranger Suarez. First pitch is at 1:10 p.m.
