Ex-Red Sox slugger Rafael Devers posted a .989 OPS in August after he initially struggled with the Giants following the June 15 blockbuster trade.
However, Devers is struggling again, batting .184 with a .698 OPS in 20 games during September.
Devers and the Giants lost 6-5 to the Cardinals on Monday to drop to 77-80. San Francisco is 3 ½ games out of the final NL Wild Card with only five games remaining in the regular season.
Below is an update on how Devers and other former Red Sox players are doing with one week remaining in the regular season.
Members of 2024 Red Sox:
Rafael Devers, Giants: The 28-year-old DH is batting .234 with a .344 on-base percentage, .446 slugging percentage, .790 OPS, 18 home runs, 13 doubles, 48 RBIs, 48 runs, 52 walks and 110 strikeouts in 85 games (372 plate appearances) with the Giants. The June 15 trade sent pitchers Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison and prospects James Tibbs III and Jose Bello to Boston. Boston sent Tibbs to the Dodgers for Dustin May at the trade deadline.
Nick Pivetta, Padres: The 32-year-old righty has a 2.87 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, .195 batting average against, 190 strikeouts and 50 walks in 31 starts (181 â…” innings). Pivetta signed a four-year, $55 million contract with the Padres on Feb. 12.
Tyler O’Neill, Orioles: The 30-year-old spent three stints on the IL with neck inflammation, a shoulder impingement and wrist inflammation. He is batting just .198 with a .293 on-base percentage, .395 slugging percentage, .688 OPS, eight home runs, six doubles, one triple, 21 runs, 24 RBIs, 20 walks and 46 strikeouts in 49 games (188 plate appearances). O’Neill signed a three-year, $49.5 million contract with Baltimore on Dec. 7.
Kenley Jansen, Angels: The 37-year-old has converted 27 of 28 saves opportunities. He has a 2.68 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 52 strikeouts and 19 walks in 60 outings (57 innings). Opponents are batting .180 against him. Jansen signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Angels on Feb. 11.
Bobby Dalbec, Royals (minors): The 30-year-old first baseman went 4-for-18 (.222) with a .333 on-base percentage, .278 slugging percentage, .611 OPS, one double, one RBI, two runs, three walks and six strikeouts in seven games for the White Sox after beginning the season with their Triple-A affiliate, Charlotte, on a minor league deal. The White Sox designated Dalbec for assignment May 4. He elected free agency two days later after he cleared through waivers. He signed with the Brewers on May 10. He had a .854 OPS in 61 games for Triple-A Nashville. He opted out of his deal with the Brewers on Aug. 4 and signed a minor league deal with the Royals four days later. He posted an .847 OPS in 32 games for their Kansas City Triple-A affiliate Omaha.
Quinn Priester, Brewers: The 25-year-old righty has a 3.25 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 128 strikeouts, 49 walks and a .238 batting average against in 28 outings, 23 starts (152 ⅓ innings). The Red Sox traded him April 7 for prospect Yophery Rodriguez, a Competitive Balance Round A pick (33rd overall) in this year’s draft and a player to be named later or cash considerations. Boston drafted Tennessee righty Marcus Phillips with the draft pick.
Chase Meidroth, White Sox: The 24-year-old second baseman is batting .265 with a .343 on-base percentage, .336 slugging percentage, .679 OPS, five homers, 15 doubles, 53 runs, 23 RBIs, 45 walks, 68 strikeouts and 13 stolen bases in 116 games (478 plate appearances). Boston traded Meidroth along with prospects Kyle Teel, Wikelman González and Braden Montgomery to Chicago for Garrett Crochet on Dec. 11.
Reese McGuire, Cubs: The 30-year-old catcher began the season in the minors after signing a minor league deal with the Cubs in January. The Cubs promoted him May 25 and he bashed two home runs in his first game with them. He’s 29-for-128 (.227) with a .246 on-base percentage, .453 slugging percentage, .699 OPS, nine homers, two doubles, 24 RBIs, 17 runs, four walks and 26 strikeouts in 42 games.
Cam Booser, White Sox: The 33-year-old lefty reliever has a 4.97 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, nine holds, one save, a .225 batting average against, 35 strikeouts and 18 walks in 36 outings (29 innings). Boston traded Booser to Chicago on Dec. 21 for 18-year-old minor leaguer Yhoiker Fajardo.
Chris Martin, Rangers: The 39-year-old righty has a 2.41 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 13 holds, five saves, a .245 batting average against, 41 strikeouts and seven walks (three intentional) in 47 outings (41 innings), Martin signed a one-year, $5.5 million contract with Texas in January.
Enmanuel Valdez, Pirates: The 26-year-old is out for the rest of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery. He went 19-for-91 (.209) with a .294 on-base percentage, .363 slugging percentage, .657 OPS, two home runs, four doubles, two triples, 12 RBIs, seven runs, 11 walks and 16 strikeouts in 31 games. Boston designated Valdez for assignment Dec. 11, then traded him to the Pirates on Dec. 15 for 23-year-old minor league pitcher Joe Vogatsky.
Lucas Sims, Phillies (minors): The 31-year-old righty posted a 13.86 ERA, 2.27 WHIP, one hold, 13 strikeouts, 14 walks and a .275 batting average against in 18 outings (12 ⅓ innings) for the Nationals who released him May 10. He signed a minor league deal with the Phillies on May 20. He was assigned to their Triple-A affiliate on May 28 and he’s been there ever since. Sims initially signed as a minor league free agent with Washington on Feb. 19.
Luis GarcÃa, Angels: The 38-year-old righty has posted a 3.48 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 11 holds, two saves, 48 strikeouts, 25 walks, a .274 batting average against in 57 outings (54 â…“ innings) between the Dodgers, Nationals and Angels.
Dominic Smith, Giants: The 30-year-old first baseman is batting .284 with a .333 on-base percentage, .417 slugging percentage, .750 OPS, five homers, 12 doubles, 33 RBIs, 26 runs, 15 walks and 42 strikeouts in 63 games (225 plate appearances). He’s currently on the IL with a hamstring strain.
Danny Jansen, Brewers: The 30-year-old catcher is batting .205 with a .310 on-base percentage, .374 slugging percentage, .684 OPS, 12 homers, 11 doubles, 33 RBIs, 35 runs, 39 walks and 84 strikeouts in 94 games (324 plate appearances) between the Rays and Brewers. Jansen signed a one-year, $8.5 million contract with the Rays on Dec. 6. Tampa traded him to Milwaukee on July 28.
Mickey Gasper, Twins: The 29-year-old catcher/infielder/outfielder is batting .158 with a .257 on-base percentage, .232 slugging percentage, .489 OPS, two home runs, one double, 11 RBIs, 15 runs, 10 walks and 20 strikeouts (110 plate appearances). Boston traded Gasper for minor league pitcher Jovani Morán on Dec. 24.
Pablo Reyes (free agent): The 31-year-old infielder/outfielder batted .194 with a .242 on-base percentage, .226 slugging percentage, .468 OPS, one double, two RBIs, four runs, two walks and 10 strikeouts in 25 games (34 plate appearances). The Yankees designated him for assignment June 16 and he elected free agency June 19. He signed a minor league deal with the Mets on June 1 and was assigned to Triple-A Syracuse. The Mets released him Aug. 29.
Chase Shugart, Pirates: The 28-year-old righty has a 3.50 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, four holds, 29 strikeouts, 17 walks and a .212 batting average against in 34 games (43 â…” innings). The Red Sox designated Shugart for assignment Jan. 15, then traded him to Pittsburgh for minor league pitcher Matt McShane on Jan. 17. The Pirates optioned him to Triple-A Indianapolis on Aug. 20.
Brad Keller, Cubs: The 30-year-old righty reliever has a 2.13 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 25 holds, three saves, 72 strikeouts, 21 walks and a .180 batting average against in 66 outings (67 â…” innings). Keller signed a minor league contract with the Cubs in January.
Tyler Heineman, Blue Jays: The 34-year-old catcher is batting .295 with a .364 on-base percentage, .425 slugging percentage, .789 OPS, three homers, eight doubles, one triple, 20 RBIs, 25 runs, 12 walks and 30 strikeouts in 63 games (170 plate appearances). Toronto claimed Heineman off waivers from the Red Sox last Sept. 17.
Bailey Horn, Tigers: The 27-year-old has pitched in 10 games for Detroit. He has allowed two runs, 11 hits and seven walks while striking out 10 in 11 ⅓ innings. He was optioned to Triple-A Toledo and he’s currently with them. Boston lost him on waivers to the Tigers in the offseason.
Zack Short, Astros: The 30-year-old infielder went 11-for-50 (.220) with a .291 on-base percentage, .380 slugging percentage, .671 OPS, two homers, two doubles, nine runs, seven RBIs, four walks and 18 strikeouts in 22 games. They outrighted him to Triple-A Sugar Land on Aug. 4.
Yohan RamÃrez, Pirates: The 30-year-old righty has a 5.58 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 41 strikeouts and 13 walks in 21 outings (30 â…” innings).
James Paxton (retired)
Rich Hill (free agent): The 45-year-old pitched in two games for the Royals before they released him. He allowed seven runs, five earned, nine hits and eight walks while striking out four in nine innings.
Garrett Cooper, free agent: He began the season with Atlanta’s Triple-A affiliate, Gwinnett after signing a minor league deal in the offseason. They released him May 18.
Others from 2024 in the minors: Jamie Westbrook (Rays’ Triple-A affiliate Durham), Chase Anderson (Rangers’ Triple-A Round Rock); Trey Wingenter (pitching in Japan), Joe Jacques (Mariners Triple-A affiliate Tacoma), Naoyuki Uwasawa (pitching in Japan); Joely Rodriguez (free agent); Rich Hill (signed minor league deal with the Royals on May 14)

Xander Bogaerts, Padres: The 32-year-old is batting .262 with a .330 on-base percentage, .387 slugging percentage, .717 OPS, 10 homers, 29 doubles, 49 RBIs, 60 runs, 48 walks, 90 strikeouts and 20 steals in 131 games (534 plate appearances). He has spent the past three walks on the IL with a broken foot.
Mookie Betts, Dodgers: The 32-year-old is batting .258 with a .328 on-base percentage, .411 slugging percentage, .739 OPS, 20 homers, 23 doubles, two triples, 79 RBIs, 94 runs, 60 walks, 65 strikeouts and eight steals in 145 games (641 plate appearances).
Nathan Eovaldi, Texas: The 35-year-old righty posted a 1.73 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, .194 batting average against, 129 strikeouts and 21 walks in 22 starts (130 innings). He’s expected to miss the rest of the season due to a right rotator cuff strain.
Chris Sale, Braves: The 36-year-old lefty, who won the 2024 NL Cy Young, has a 2.63 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 156 strikeouts, 30 walks and a .221 batting average against in 20 starts (120 innings).
Alex Verdugo, Braves: The 29-year-old outfielder batted .239 with a .296 on-base percentage, .289 slugging percentage, .585 OPS, 10 doubles, 12 RBIs, 21 runs, 14 walks and 31 strikeouts in 56 games (213 plate appearances). Atlanta designated him for assignment, then released him July 5.
Andrew Benintendi, White Sox: The 31-year-old outfielder is batting .240 with a .307 on-base percentage, .431 slugging percentage, .738 OPS, 20 homers, 16 doubles, two triples, 63 RBIs, 57 runs, 40 walks and 82 strikeouts in 116 games (470 plate appearances).
