On “Days of Roar,” Cleveland Guardians beat writer Paul Hoynes checks in about the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central race with two weeks remaining.

The Cleveland Guardians are in the middle of a double-edged playoff race. Not only are they fighting to punch their ticket into October, but they have a chance to knock off the Detroit Tigers from a division title.

With six games left to play, the Guardians hold the last wild card spot in the American League. Sitting at 84-72, the they additionally are one game back of the Tigers for the American League Central division. In their past 11 games, the Guardians are 10-1 and recently swept the Tigers while on the road.

Cleveland will finish its season with two more homestands: a three-game series against the Tigers starting Sept. 23 and a three-game series against the Texas Rangers starting Sept. 26.

The magic number for the Guardians to clinch the MLB postseason is 6. The Guardians currently hold the third-place wild card with a tiebreaker over the Houston Astros, who share an identical record.
