The Seattle Mariners host the Colorado Rockies tonight at T-Mobile Park with a strong chance at consolidating their control over the AL West.

The Rockies are the worst team in baseball, sitting 70 games below .500. (Yes, you read that right!) Seattle, meanwhile, enters with a three-game lead over the Houston Astros after sweeping them this past weekend.

The Mariners have won 14 of their last 15 games, riding one of the hottest streaks in franchise history. Tonight presents an opportunity to extend their four-game winning run against the league’s worst team before closing the regular season against a much tougher opponent: the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Seattle will hand the ball to Bryce Miller, who comes in with a 4–5 record and a 5.58 ERA. He typically struggles to go deep into games and has allowed opponents to hit .288 against him this month. On average, he gives up about four runs over five innings. The Rockies’ light-hitting lineup could give him a chance to turn things around, though Colorado is capable of the occasional surprise.

Fortunately for Seattle, they’ll face struggling rookie McCade Brown, who is 0–4 with a 9.17 ERA. He has yet to pitch beyond 4.1 innings, which means Colorado’s bullpen — a group with the second-worst ERA in the majors at 5.27 — will be heavily involved. That’s good news for the Mariners.

Prediction

With their hot offense and home-field advantage, the Mariners are heavy favorites. Winters has been hit hard all season, and while Miller has been inconsistent, he should have enough support to get the job done. Expect Seattle to pile on runs across multiple innings and continue their dominant September surge.

Prediction: Mariners 7, Rockies 2
