Freddy Peralta speaks about shutout performance vs Cubs on Aug. 18
Freddy Peralta allowed just one hit over six innings against the Cubs, and the Brewers kept rolling with a 7-0 win Aug. 18 at Wrigley Field.
If the season ended today, the Milwaukee Brewers — already getting a first-round bye in the forthcoming National League postseason — would be lined up to face either the Chicago Cubs or San Diego Padres, with the opponent decided by a best-of-three series that begins Sept. 30.
The Brewers have never faced the Cubs in the postseason, and though the prospect of a border battle would be deeply satisfying for the winning team, there’s still the matter of Cubs fans overrunning American Family Field, not to mention that the Cubs have won the season series against the Brewers, 7-6.
The Brewers could also fall to the No. 2 seed if they keep losing ground the Philadelphia Phillies, and that would set them up with either the Los Angeles Dodgers or the final NL team to make the field (the Cincinnati Reds or New York Mets, perhaps?). The Brewers have beaten the Dodgers all six times this season, but it’s still one of the more intimidating opponents in baseball.
What would you like to see? Are you rooting for the Brewers to slip to the No. 2 seed and miss out on the Cubs in the first round of the playoffs?
If Milwaukee stays put, will you cheer for the Cubs to lose in the wild-card round? Or do you relish the opportunity to see the Brewers topple Craig Counsell’s team in a postseason setting?
