
NY Mets pay tribute to Jacob deGrom before he returns to Citi Field mound
As Jacob deGrom made his first start back at Citi Field since leaving the Mets, the club played a video tribute on Sept. 12, 2025.
CHICAGO — The Mets’ season-ending road trip got off to a rough start on Tuesday night.
In the first four innings, they committed two errors and found themselves down five runs against the Cubs.
But the Mets managed to pull off one of their biggest and most important comebacks of the season, with Brandon Nimmo blasting a game-tying three run home run and Francisco Alvarez putting them ahead with a two-run shot in the eighth inning.
The Mets snatched a 9-7 victory one moved a game up on the Reds, who fell to the Pirates, and Diamondbacks for the final NL Wild Card spot with five games to play.
The Mets will look to further back up that momentous win in the second game of their series with the Cubs at 8:05 p.m. on Wednesday night at Wrigley Field.
For the second game of the series, the Mets will get Tyrone Taylor back in center field after his stint on the injured list with a hamstring strain. They have designated Jose Siri for assignment to make room for Taylor.
Jonah Tong’s fifth major league start will be the biggest of his young career. He is coming off allowing one unearned run over five innings with eight strikeouts in a win over the Padres.
For the Cubs, left-hander Michael Boyd will be taking the ball. He enters the game with a 13-8 ERA, 3.20 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 174â…“ innings.
