Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts revealed that while relief pitcher Brock Stewart still has a chance to return before the regular season, it seems unlikely.
Stewart threw a bullpen on Wednesday, but is still feeling some residual soreness. The right-hander has been on the injured list since Aug. 12 with right shoulder inflammation.
“He’s pitchable,” Roberts said Wednesday. “I think tomorrow will be a light catch day. He wants to be a part of things and he’s doing everything he can. We’ve just got to be mindful of the health, the performance part of it. So it’s day-to-day.”

The Dodgers acquired Stewart at the trade deadline from the Minnesota Twins, shipping out outfielder James Outman. He had a 2.38 ERA with the Twins this season before arriving in LA at the end of July. He made just four appearances for the Dodgers after arriving, posting a 4.91 ERA before going on IL.
The 33-year-old reliever began his MLB career with the Dodgers in 2016, and stayed with the organization until the Toronto Blue Jays claimed him off waivers in 2019. After a brief stint in an independent league, Stewart returned to the Dodgers organization, but spent most of his time on the injured list. After his time with the Dodgers in the minors, he signed with the Twins in 2022.
Stewart, despite his struggles for the Dodgers thus far, would be a nice addition to a struggling Dodgers bullpen. A late inning collapse cost the Dodgers their opening game of their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday, and they nearly fell apart again Wednesday in an 11-inning contest.

They will look to win the rubber match against the D-backs on Thursday, when Yoshinobu Yamamoto takes the mound for his final start of the 2025 regular season. The final game of the series begins Thursday at 12:40 p.m. PT.
