Dodgers celebrate 12th division win in 13 years as elite pitching fuels their confidence heading into October.

Major League Baseball‘s playoffs tip off in September and stretch almost all the way to November. In between, a dozen teams will vie for the 11 to 13 victories necessary to capture a World Series championship. 

It all starts Tuesday, Sept. 30 with four best-of-three wild card series getting underway. Those survivors will take on the top three seeds in the American and National Leagues, with the Milwaukee Brewers and Seattle Mariners emerging as the likeliest to secure top seeds. 

Yet so much about these playoffs are unpredictable, all the way through a World Series that begins Friday, Oct. 24 at the home of the club with the superior record.
