A day after clinching a spot in the playoffs the Boston Red Sox return to the field on Saturday, Sept. 27 looking to sure up their own position and play spoiler to the Detroit Tigers, who they are hosting at Fenway Park in Boston.
The game is scheduled to start at 4:10 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast on NESN and FanDuel Sports Network Detroit – BSD. Fans looking to watch this MLB game for free can do so using DIRECTV, which offers a free trial. FuboTV offers up to $30 off your first month. On Friday, the Red Sox walked away with a 4-3 walk-off win that clinched their first playoff berth since 2021. Center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela provided the game-winning triple that brought Romy González home from first.
Now Boston is looking to maintain its spot in the second Wild Card, which in turn could knock the Tigers out of the postseason. Detroit is currently tied with the Cleveland Guardians for the AL Central lead, but the Guardians hold the tiebreaker. The Tigers do hold a tiebreaker over the Houston Astros, who are one game back in the Wild Card race for the last playoff spot.
As for the Red Sox and their playoff future, they are currently set to face the New York Yankees in a three-game Wild Card series, but it could easily become the Toronto Blue Jays, who are tied with the Yankees for the AL East lead, but hold the tiebreaker. Boston has the best record in AL East matchups out of the entire division and will finish with at least three more wins in the division than the next closest team. And while the Red Sox did win the season series with the Yankees 9-4, they lost the eight of 13 against the Blue Jays.
