Milwaukee Brewers fans pay tribute to the late Bob Uecker

The Milwaukee Brewers honored the life of the legendary Bob Uecker on Sunday Aug. 24 at American Family Field.

The Milwaukee Brewers play their penultimate game of the 2025 regular season as they again host the Cincinnati Reds at American Family Field on Saturday night, Sept. 27.

Left-hander Robert Gasser (0-1, 6.00) starts for the Brewers, who will then follow with right-hander Jacob Misiorowski. Left-hander Andrew Abbott (9-7, 2.80), a 2025 all-star, counters for the Reds as they play for their playoff lives.

Milwaukee keeps chipping away

While there was plenty of traffic on the bases, Jacob Misiorowski nevertheless held the Reds off the board over his final two innings, completing his 2 â…“-inning outing having allowed three hits, two runs (one earned) and three walks with three strikeouts over 58 pitches.

Grant Anderson replaced Misiorowski for the sixth and surrendered a two-out, solo home run to Sal Stewart that upped Cincinnati’s lead to 7-2.

Jackson Chourio homered to center off Abbott to lead off the bottom of the frame, and two batters later the lefty was pulled for Connor Phillips. A walk, hit batter and Jake Bauers pinch-hit single later and Milwaukee had clawed to within 7-4.

Things got even more interesting when Danny Jansen drew a walk from Graham Ashcraft to load the bases with two outs, but Joey Ortiz grounded out to end the threat.

Brewers offense answers back a bit

A bloop single by Jansen and double to center by Ortiz that missed going over the wall by about six inches was followed by a Christian Yelich groundout that got Milwaukee onto the board.

After Chourio struck out, Brice Turang sent a long drive down the left-field line that Spencer Steer ran down but couldn’t reel in, allowing Ortiz to score and cutting the deficit to 6-2.

Misiorowski allowed a pair of baserunners in the fourth but kept the Reds from tacking onto their lead.

Then, as he was finishing his warmups in the fifth, a large cheer emanated from the crowd as the Philadelphia Phillies‘ 5-0 loss to the Minnesota Twins went final, clinching the best record in baseball for the Brewers for just the second time ever and first time since 1982 as well as home-field advantage throughout the postseason.

A train wreck of a third inning

A couple terrific defensive plays got Gasser out of a two-on, nobody-out situation in the second inning.

He wasn’t nearly so lucky in the third.

The trouble began when Noelvi Marte hit a squibber to the right of the mound that Gasser fielded fine but uncorked a horrible throw on, leaving Marte safe.

Miguel Andújar followed with a line drive to left on which Isaac Collins made a poorly timed diving attempt and the ball got past him and rolled to the wall. Steer followed with a strikeout with runners on second and third but rookie Sal Stewart nearly took Gasser’s head off with a single to center that made it 1-0.

Elly De La Cruz then lined out to Collins, leaving Gasser an out away from minimal damage. But he followed by walking Tyler Stephenson, leading manager Pat Murphy to make the call to the bullpen for Misiorowski.

With the bases loaded in his first-ever relief appearance at the major-league level, Misiorowski got ahead in the count, 0-2, to Ke’Bryan Hayes before Hayes squibbed one to the right of the mound for a single and an RBI.

Matt McLain drew a five-pitch walk to drive in another run, then TJ Friedl lined a 101.8-mph fastball into center to plate two more runs and up Cincinnati’s lead to 6-0 before Marte finally grounded out.

In his 2 â…” innings of work, Gasser allowed four hits and four runs with two walks and three strikeouts over 57 pitches.
