All good runs come to an end.

The Astros beat the Angels on Saturday 6-1 but were eliminated from the playoff race. They entered Saturday needing to win their last two games against the Angels, and have Detroit or Cleveland lose its final two games

It is the first time they have missed the postseason since 2016. Their streak of eight straight playoff appearances is the fourth-longest such run in MLB history.

The Astros squandered what was a seven game lead in the AL West as of early July.

“I think we’re all disappointed and sad about it,” said second baseman Jose Altuve, the constant across those eight postseason runs. “We tried to fight until the last day. We had some chances before today’s game. But it didn’t happen. So yeah, not a good feeling.”

The team will wrap up the season Sunday.
