CINCINNATI — Right-hander Slade Cecconi was cleared to start against the Reds on Saturday night when the Guardians activated him from the injured list.
Zak Kent, another right-hander, was optioned to Triple-A Columbus to make room for Cecconi.
Cecconi has been on a rehab assignment at Columbus after recovering from a left oblique injury, which caused him to open the season on the injured list. He made three starts at Columbus, going 0-2 with a 4.85 ERA.
The Guardians acquired Cecconi from Arizona as part of the Josh Naylor deal in December. He has made three starts against the Reds, going 0-1 with a 4.32 ERA (eight earned runs in 16 2/3 innings).
Kent has bounced between Cleveland and Columbus three times this year. He’s made three appearances with the Guardians, posting a 5.40 ERA, while striking out six and walking three in five innings.
