KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Underdog and the Kansas City Royals announced a multi-year partnership Monday, helping the sports gambling company earn market access in Missouri.
In August, the Missouri Gaming Commission granted DraftKings and Circa Sports direct mobile sports betting licenses. That left other companies needing to affiliate with a land-based casino or professional sports team to gain access to Missouri bettors.
Underdog said it has a pending sports betting license application under review by the Missouri Gaming Commission. The company currently has legal sports betting in North Carolina and has fantasy sports licenses in states across the country.
“We are going to work with the Royals to bring the best sports betting experience possible to fans in Missouri, while we continue to drive innovation in sports gaming and expand our product offerings in new states,” said Stacie Stern, Underdog’s Senior VP of Government Affairs and Partnerships.
Several Royals initiatives at Kauffman Stadium, like Bark in the Park and the Underdog Hot Dog Derby are already sponsored by Underdog.
Sports betting is expected to be opened to the Missouri public in December. Underdog already has a fantasy sports license in Missouri.
FanDuel Sports Network, which did not receive one of the direct mobile sports betting licenses, partnered with St. Louis City SC to gain access in the Show-Me State.
