With the baseball postseason getting underway minus the St. Louis Cardinals, what is a redbird fan to do? There are a few options, one of which gives you fall vibes from years gone by.

Not long ago Cardinal baseball was defined by post season success.

Option 1 – Cardinal fans can follow former St. Louis players who are on postseason rosters for other teams, and there are plenty. Former fan favorite Tommy Edman is still playing second base for the L.A. Dodgers. Paul Goldschmidt is in New York playing for the Yankees. Harrison Bader is with the Philadelphia Phillies in center field. Jack Flaherty is pitching for the Detroit Tigers, and former Cardinal manager Mike Shildt is leading the San Diego Padres again into the postseason. Randy Arozarena (SEA), Lane Thomas (CLE), Carson Kelly (CHC), Jordan Hicks and Steven Matz (BOS), Luke Weaver (NYY) Edmundo Sosa (PHI) are all still playing ball into the postseason.

Option 2 – St. Louis baseball fans can switch focus to the upcoming hockey season and the Blues. The Battlehawks season is long over, and many St. Louis football fans are already following the Kansas City Chiefs. The St. Louis City SC season is coming to an end. There is Mizzou football to root for, and the basketball team at Mizzou should be better than last season. But college basketball doesn’t start for almost two months. That leaves….

Option 3 – Salve the end of the Cardinal season on a visit with a future St. Louis Cardinal red jacket wearer Adam Wainwright, who is also out there still performing. Yes, he did take the mound when the Savannah Bananas were in town this summer. That was fun. Wainwright has his own show where he plays and sings country music. He’s out on tour this month in Illinois in a few locations.

Wainwright is in Bloomington, Illinois at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts Thursday October 16. The next night, Friday October 17, Wainwright is in Effingham, Illinois at the Effingham Performance Center.  Then on Saturday October 18, his show is in Marion, Illinois at the Cultural and Civic Center.

Playoff baseball may not be something the Cardinals are participating in this fall, but you can still see a legendary Cardinal perform, on stage in Illinois in October.
