Halloween, the spookiest time of the year, is nearly a month away. It’s one of my favorite days of the year and always look forward to dressing up. I retired from cosplay nearly a year ago after 10 fantastic years of doing this amazing craft. Don’t get me wrong. I loved doing cosplay and attending conventions with my friends. I’ll always appreciate the memories I’ve made while doing cosplay. However, it didn’t mean that celebrating Halloween was automatically off the table. In fact, this will be my first Halloween, post-cosplay retirement. Also, it’ll be my 16th consecutive year celebrating Halloween. I started dressing for this spooky day back in 2010 while I was attending college, where I dressed up as Superman at a party on campus. I ended up winning first place in a costume contest and the top prize was $50. Since then, I won two more Halloween costume contests, including last year at work where I dressed up as Baseball Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson and also won first place. I’ll have a link to the DIY last year at the end of the story.

Sorry to keep everyone waiting, but as you’ve already guessed based on the picture for this story, it’s another baseball-themed Halloween costume this year. I’ll be going as an Angel in the Outfield to pay homage to one of my favorite Disney movies from the 90s, Angels in the Outfield. I narrowed my Halloween costume choices down to three. I had to put the cost of every item into consideration when deciding on a Halloween costume. After careful consideration, I chose to go as an Angels player from Angels in the Outfield. I’ll be breaking down each of the items to put this costume together. I’ll put links underneath every item.

Angels Jersey: I wasn’t unable to find a California Angels jersey and even thought I were to find one, it would’ve been out of my price range. Instead, I found a Los Angeles Angels replica jersey with no player’s name on the back, which is what I wanted. Customizing a jersey would’ve cost me hundreds of dollars. Just in case you’re curious, I wear a medium in jerseys.

Angels Fitted Cap: Finding a cap wasn’t difficult for me and it was the size I wanted, 7-5/8, which happens to be the exact size I wear in ball caps.

Red Compression Shirt: If you’re searching for a compression shirt that costs under $15, you don’t have to look any further. Name brand compression shirts would cost you between $20-$40. I elected to purchase an off-brand medium red compression shirt.

Baseball Pants: For context, I’m 5’8 and I have short legs. For under $10, I chose a pair of white baseball pants with red piping. One minor flaw was the legs of the baseball pants, but I tucked part of them inside my cleats, which I’ll discuss in a bit.

Red Baseball Belt: I had to spend a bit extra on this item, but it was worth it. It wasn’t that snug around my waist, but it was close enough. I have a 40-inch waist, so looking for a belt that was around my size was important.

Angel Wings: No Angels costume is complete without a pair of wings. I didn’t want a pair of super fancy wings. Not too small, too big, or too wide. Just a reasonable size where it looks good on me. I chose a pair of angel feather wings and they’re foldable, meaning that I can fold them out when I’m about to put my costume on and close them back up when I done wearing my costume. The size of the wings were 32×24 inches and I bought them for under $20.

Baseball Cleats: I mentioned earlier about the legs of my baseball pants being a bit too long and had to tuck some of them inside my cleats. That way, I won’t worry about tripping and falling down. I wear a size 10 in shoes, so I wanted to find rubber cleats instead of metal ones. I bought a pair of red Under Armour baseball cleats, which went for $40. They looked great on my feet.

The two items I have are an LED halo and some eye black. In case you aren’t a sports person, eye black is worn by football and baseball players. The purpose of them wearing it on their faces is to reduce glare from bright lights. These items are optional, as well as a baseball bat, baseball glove, and a baseball. However you want to customize this costume is up to you.
