Major League Baseball’s official account on X is taking heat for its post about Aaron Judge’s “hit” during Game 2 on Wednesday night.

Judge, the frontrunner for American League MVP – along with Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh – has a long, documented history of postseason struggles. Judge is an absolute monster in the regular season, perhaps the best player in the league since Barry Bonds. But he’s struggled in the postseason. Over 59 playoff games, Judge is hitting .210 with 47 hits, 16 homers, 34 RBIs and 37 runs scored.

Wednesday night, with Judge and the Yankees facing elimination, the MVP candidate came up in a big spot. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Judge hit with the game tied, 2-2, and a runner in scoring position.

Judge came through, technically, hitting a soft line drive to left field. The ball was misplayed by left fielder Jaren Duran, who couldn’t come up with the catch.

Duran bobbled the ball, allowing it to drop into the grass. The runner scored from second base, giving the Yankees a 3-2 lead.

MLB’s official account was excited.

“Aaron Judge finds grass and the @Yankees LEAD! #Postseason” they wrote.

“This ball was catchable. Aaron Judge got some love from the baseball gods,” one fan wrote.

“How is this not an error,” one fan added.

“‘Finds grass’ is an interesting way of describing Duran dropping a pop fly by diving for no reason,” one fan added.

“Finds grass and it’s Duran dropping a very catchable ball lmao,” one fan added.

“This is a routine fly out. Save the style points for the regular season,” one fan added.

“Aaron Judge finds what’s that now?” another fan added.

The run counts, of course, but should Judge get credit for a clutch hit in this situation? Probably not.

Game 2 of the three-game series is continuing on ESPN on Wednesday night.
