PITTSBURGH — Former University of Cincinnati pitcher Cam Alldred has been called up by the Pittsburgh Pirates, the team announced on Wednesday. Alldred, a relief pitcher, will make his major league debut when he first appears in a game.

The southpaw makes the move up from Triple-A Indianapolis where he held a 1.53 ERA in 17.2 IP with a 1-1 record and 15 strikeouts in eight appearances. Alldred has been an effective reliever throughout his minor league career, posting a 2.75 ERA across five different levels of the Pirates’ minor league system.

The Pirates selected Alldred in the 24th round of the 2018 MLB draft after a standout career at Cincinnati. In his senior season at UC, Alldred went 5-3 with a 3.95 ERA and 85 strikeouts; earning postseason All-American Athletic Conference honors. Alldred will be the 21st former Bearcat to make their major league debut – joining Art Warren (Reds), Ian Happ (Cubs) and Josh Harrison (White Sox) as one of four active Bearcats in Major League Baseball.
