It’s October 3, 2025. Four teams fought at least somewhat hard to make the playoffs, running reasonable win totals to buy a shot to extend their season. Each of those teams then lost two games in the span of two or three days, and that’s it, better fortune next year. It doesn’t sit right with me.
But then again, neither does losing three games in three to five days. Or losing four games in a week or less. Those things just seem misaligned with baseball. But I’m a noted “stop having playoffs that constitute short series” guy. (I’d be more than fine with the format if they gave teams free wins in a series to make the series’ outcome aligned more to regular season outcomes, but no one’s gonna do that.) So, I’ll throw the question to you: is three games too short for an MLB postseason series? Five games? Something else?
